Hello World! I am so excited to be starting a new blog (third ones a charm, right?). This is my space to keep track of recipes, favorite places, food news, random adventures and whatever else is on my mind. A little bit about myself:
I am a Registered Dietitian and work at a grocery store teaching customers about healthy eating and cooking. I am lucky enough to have a job that is also my passion 🙂
I do not love to write but I am working on it, so bear with me.
I like almost all food, but hate olives and pickles.
I just got a new puppy, so I am sure you will see many photos and hear stories about her as you read my blog.
It’s hard to choose what to post to make a good first impression. I am one of the most indecisive people you may ever meet, but I am working on making decisions, sticking with them and moving on. So that is what I am doing today. This being the first post means there is plenty of time for everything else and room for much improvement! My sisters, roommate and I used to own a juice company and sold at markets in DC and Maryland, so it made sense to start with a juice recipe. I love these juices because they are super simple to make with only 3 ingredients and taste absolutely refreshing and energizing! So here it is, my 3 favorite juices.
WARNING! Definitely check out this video clip from Portlandia before consuming the beet, carrot, orange juice, it will be worth it!
I couldn’t decide if I wanted to touch on nutrition in my blog so if it is something you would like to continue to read about in different recipes please comment. I will always italicize the nutrition section if I continue so you can always skip over it if you are not interested.
Beets can loose up to 40% of their phytonutrients when cooked so beet juice is a great way to absorb all of their abundant nutrients! Beets are anti-inflammatory and high in folate and manganese. The combo of carrots and beets make this juice amazing for eye health too. If you love beets I would encourage less OJ and more beets, it will just be a much richer juice.
Apple, Lemon, Ginger packs a punch! It is tart, tangy, with a subtle touch of heat from the ginger. Lets just say this is the best worlds best hangover cure, seriously! Ginger has been traditionally used as an herbal medicine to effectively reduce and alleviate gastrointestinal issues. It has actually shown to be more effective than dramamine (an over the counter drug for motion sickness) in studies. It is a little bit more of an acquired taste so you may want to start off with more apple and less lemon and ginger but I promise with time you won’t be able to get enough.
If you are hesitant about green juice give cucumber, pineapple, kale a try! It is unbelievably refreshing and hydrating with a sweet twist of the tropics. Let me know what you think!
